On A Mission To Take Kids Fishing
Retired Police Sgt. Don Dixon and former sporting goods owner Wayne Lee put together the first Mission To Take Kids Fishing almost 10 years ago. It gives children an opportunity to experience a day of fishing that could completely change their outlook on life.
Since then, professional sportsman Doug Houston has involved himself and the project has really taken off. Other organizations that are now involved include, the Mobile Police Dept., Salvation Army and a host of other small businesses and boat owners.
The children are given a rod and reel, tackle box and ice chest to keep fish in. They also receive a T-shirt and cap, and lunch on a boat.
The main goal of this fishing project is to get troubled kids away from problem situations and to hopefully plant a new seed of hope in each child.
