Thousands Of Fish Rescued After Flood
Over 10,000 freshwater fish were rescued from a UK racecourse after flood waters left them stranded.
Environment Agency staff were called in and spent an evening returning the fish back to the river.
Hundreds of fish had already died and environment manager David Throup said it was a distressing sight.
“We couldn’t leave them there to die.
“The response from our officers was fantastic and we were able to save 10,000 young fish.”
Most of the dead fish were large, mature fish but officers were able to rescue the smaller species including chubb, roach, bream and eels.
Mr Throup said more fish could have been rescued if they had been alerted to the scene sooner.
